Rs 60,000 cr farm loans will be waived by June 30: Chidambaram

Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, May 11 (UNI) Hitting back at the Opposition for criticising the Congress-led UPA Government on the massive farm loan waiver scheme, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram today said the loans will be waived by June 30 this year.

''I would like to tell you (people) that the government would implement the scheme by June end. Those who demanded the Centre to waive the farm loans were now repeatedly asking how the government could implement such a massive scheme and were teasing us,'' he said, while inaugurating the 1327th branch of the Oriental Bank of Commerce at Singampunari near here.

''We are going to do it. We know how to do,'' he said and added that with the guidance of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and under the leadership of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the scheme will be implemented as per schedule by the UPA Government.
