Two-day food festival at Sangla
Shimla, May 10 (UNI) To promote the cuisines of tribal people of the state, a two-day food festival today commenced at Sangla in Kinnaur district .
The food festival is organised by Sangla Valley Sustainable Development Society in association with Himalaya Research Group, Agriculture University, Palampur and FIBL Institute of Switzerland.
"The objective of the festival is to acquaint the tourists with the household environment and rich culture of the tribal area," an official spokesman said in a release here.
The festival was organised for the first time in Sangla in order to promote 'Home Stay Tourism'. Local people and tourists from India and abroad participated in the festival. Local cuisine and culture of the tribal area was exhibited in the festival by the members of Sangla Valley Sustainable Development Society which was formed by the residents of Sangla in order to promote 'Home Stay Tourism'.
Deputy Commissioner P S Draik, who was Chief Guest on the occasion said that Home Stay Tourism provided an opportunity to tourists to acquaint themselves with the culture of the state besides generating sources of income to the local people. It would also go a long way in promoting cultural interaction, he added.
Palampur Agriculture University Vice Chancellor Tej Pratap Singh said that 28 families were being imparted training in Sangla village for promoting Home Stay Tourism. He lauded the contribution of Sangla Valley Sustainable Development Society in this direction.
