Girls outperform boys in HSSC examination in Goa

Panaji, May 10 (UNI) Girls have outperformed boys in the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in March.

Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHE) Chairman L M T Fernandes, while announcing the results today, told reporters that 12,000 candidates had registered for the examination of whom 11,966 had appeared and 9,491 passed, recording a passing percentage of 79.32. Last year, the passing percentage was 80.31.

Under the exempted category, 1109 candidates had registered of whom 1,039 appeared and 479 passed.

This year, the passing percentage among girls was 81.19 as compared to the 72.04 per cent among boys.

Mr Fernandes, while announcing the streamwise results, said 2336 students had appeared in the arts stream in the general category of whom 1652 had passed, registering a pass percentage of 70.72.

In commerce, 4209 students had appeared of whom 3530 had passed, registering a passing percentage of 83.87.

In science, 3017 students had appeared of whom 2225 had passed, registering a passing percentage of 73.75. In the vocational stream, 2404 students had appeared of whom 2084 had passed, recording a passing percentage of 86.69.
