DC reviews arrangements for Panchayat elections

Kapurthala, May 10 (UNI) The district administration today reviewed the arrangements for holding the Gram Panchayat elections in the 532 villages in the district on May 26.

A meeting was held here today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner cum District Election officer J M Balamurugan in which SSP Rakesh Aggarwal, ADC development and the returning officers participated to make necessary arrangements for holding free and fair panchayat polls.

The DC said that 622 polling stations had been set up and out of this, 180 polling stations had been declared sensitive. He instructed the returning officers to go through the election guidelines while accepting or rejecting the nomination papers of the candidates and give the reasons in detail while rejecting the nomination papers.

He said the copies of the voters lists and reservations of panches and villages had been sent to the BDPO for providing information to the candidates. The candidate can take the copy of the voters list at the rate of rupees two per page and reservation copy at the rate of rupees five per page from the office of BDPO.

The nominations for the Panchayat election can be filed from May 13 to May 16, scrutiny on May 17 and withdrawal on May 19.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate today ordered the closure of all liquor vends in the district on May 12 and May 14 in view of the Block samiti and Zila Parishad elections.
