Brit men doubly prone to be gold-diggers than their female counterparts

London, May 10 : It seems that British men are bigger gold diggers than women, when it comes to marriage.

According to a new survey, nearly twice as many Brit men as women would consider marrying someone for their money.

About 19 percent of men admitted they were potential gold-diggers and would tie the knot with someone in order to benefit from their wealth and luxury lifestyle, compared with only 11 percent of women.

Instead 67 percent of women said they thought it was important that they earned their own money, while 76 percent said they did not rely on their partner to take the lead when it came to finances, according to insurer Scottish Widows.

Young people were the most likely to consider marrying someone for their money, with nearly one in five people of both sexes aged under 24 saying they would do this.

"Our research shows that the tide is turning with so many men willing to be financially dependent on their partner, but it's good to see the surge in women taking responsibility for their own financial future," the Telegraph quoted Mike Hoban, customer and brand marketing director at Scottish Widows, as saying.
