Body of abducted NSCN-IM activist recovered

Kohima, May 10 (UNI) Police recovered the body of the NSCN-IM joint secretary, who was abducted by the NSCN (Unification), from the Naga United Village in Dimapur.

Official sources said here today that the NSCN(U) had abducted NSCN-IM joint secretary Atong Pongener on May 4 for his alleged involvement in kidnapping a student and taking ransom for his release.

Police suspected that the victim was shot dead on May 8 and his body was dumped.

Meanwhile, the NSCN(U) owned responsibility for killing the NSCN-IM cadre and declared that he was ''punished for committing crimes against the Naga brethren.'' UNI AS DPM BDP NS1352
