28 kg heroin seized on Punjab-Raj border

Abohar, May 10: In a joint operation, sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue (DRI) and the Customs seized 28 kg heroin from a truck close to the Punjab-Rajasthan border on the Abohar-Ganganagar road.

Giving details, Jodhpur Customs Commissionarate, Joint Commissioner, Harcharan Singh told UNI on telephone that the seizure was made in the wee hours yesterday. It was a joint operation of DRI, Headquarters (Delhi) and the Customs, he added.

Mr Harcharan Singh said that the truck carrying the consignment and was intercepted after a chase by the DRI and Customs officials.

However both occupants of the vehicle managed to get away, he claimed.

He said that the heroin had been smuggled from Pakistan through the Punjab border. The consignment was being transported from Punjab to a 'safer' place in Rajasthan, he added.
