No SPG cover for CJI and NSG for Chief Justices of HCs: SC
New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition seeking SPG security cover for the Chief Justice of India and the NSG (Z Plus) security to the Chief Justices of the High Courts and also for the heads of Legislative wings of the Union and the states.
The petitioner, Nyay Bharti, had also sought directions to the Union and state governments to provide a state plane and a helicopter at the disposal of the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justices of High Courts and an ambulance to accompany them on travel.
Counsel for the petitioner contended before a bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices R V Raveendran and M K Sharma that when the President, Prime Minister, Governors, Chief Ministers, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her children Mr Rahul Gandhi and Ms Priyanka Vadra and other VIPs travel, a medical team follows them but when the Chief Justice of India, Supreme Court judges, Chief Justices of the High Courts move then no medical team accompanies them.
The petitioner had come in appeal against the Allahabad High Court judgement dated February 15, 2008, vide which the writ petition of the petitioners was dismissed.
The apex court, however, refused to entertain the petition and dismissed it.
