JD (U) demands probe into candidates' 'illegal' assets
Bangalore, May 9 (UNI) The JD(U) today demanded an inquiry by the Income Tax Department into alleged illegal amassing of assets by the candidates, contesting the Karnataka Assembly elections, irrespective of their party affiliations.
Party state unit Secretary G K C Reddy told reporters here that the candidates, mostly drawn allegedly from different mafias like real estate and mining, had looted the property of the government and the people and had now submitted their affidavits with declaration of ''illegal'' assets worth crores of rupees to the Election Commission.
The Income Tax Department should probe into assets they had amassed after entering politics, he said.
''We have complained to the Election Commission and urged it to take immediate action to find out from where and how they obtained such huge wealth in a short period,'' he said.
