Gajanan Kirtikar and five others acquitted by special court

Mumbai, May 9 (UNI) A special court here today acquitted Shiv Sena legislator Gajanan Kirtikar and five others, charged with instigating violence during the Mumbai riots in 1992, for lack of evidence.

While acquitting them, Magistrate R C Bapat Sarkar said the Investigating Officer's statement failed to prove the prosecution case.

Among those accused included corporator Ravindra Waikar, currently heading the BMC standing committee.

They were booked under under section 39 of Bombay Police Act (unlawful assembly), various sections of the Criminal Procedure Code for instigating violence and 153 (a) of the Indian Penal Code for the conspiracy.
