Probe reveals lack of security at Sonari airport
Jamshedpur, May 8 (UNI) An investigation carried out by Jamshedpur police has revealed a serious security lapse at Sonari aiport here.
The investigation conducted by a police team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police found that the airport, maintained by Tata Steel, had been lacking proper security arrangements.
The probe team also found the X-ray machine in the campus of the airport was lying defunct.
Significantly, apart from Tata Steel's own flights, Air Deccan's two flights operate from the airport daily.
The investigation was conducted after recovery of about 2000 litres of 'illegally stored' aircraft fuel, allegedly stored by a private pilot training institute in the airport campus on Tuesday.
The raid was conducted by the district police after an instruction from Deputy Commissioner N M Kulkarni, the sources said.
