MP HC stays proceedings to remove Katni Mayor

Jabalpur, May 8 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court today stayed proceedings for removal of Katni Mayor Sandeep Jaiswal by the state government on the charge of alleged irregularities.

Hearing a petition by Mr Jaiswal, Justice Abhay Nayak stayed the proceedings to remove him from the post.

The court issued notices to Principal Secretary (Urban Administration) Raghav Chandra, complainant and leader of opposition in Katni Municipal Corporation (KMC) Nikhlesh Jain and the KMC Commissioner and sought reply.

Petitioner's counsel Naman Nagrath said the government was taking action against Mr Jaiswal on the basis of a complaint by Mr Jain.

Allegation against Mr Jaiswal was that tender for a road construction work showed unapproved work for amount more than Rs 2.5 lakh.

The petition stated that Mr Chandra was taking action with malafide intention. A case is going on against Mr Chandra over a plot owned by him in Katni. Mr Chandra was putting pressure for development of this plot.

The petition stated that Mr Jaiswal was not provided documents related to charges. He was also not provided an opportunity for hearing.
