Hockey upgraded to priority category

Patiala, May 8: Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has upgraded six sports disciplines, including Hockey, to priority category.

According to the recategorisation list available with the NIS here Hockey (Men), Swimming and Basketball which were in general category have been ubgraded into priority category while Football, Cycling and Volleyball have been upgarded from 'others' to priority category. University and school games have also been recategorised into priority category. A notification to this effect was issued by Deepika Kachhal, Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports late last month.
