Amarinder ill, not to canvass in Zila Parishad polls
Patiala, May 8 (UNI) Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh will not canvass for the Congress in the forthcoming bypoll to the Amritsar South assembly constituency and the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections on health grounds.
Capt Singh has sent a special messenger to deliver a letter to 10-Janpath, New Delhi to explain his inability to campaign in the election, due to his ill health.
The assembly bypoll is to be held on May 22 and the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections are to be held on May 12.
Political sources close to the Capt Singh said here today that the former chief minister has been advised complete bed rest by his family doctor for at least two weeks.
Sources said that a team of doctors headed by Dr Gurdeep Singh has advised him complete bed rest after Capt Singh complained of vertigo and pain in the neck. Capt Singh's cervical spine has developed 'oste phyte formation and disc narrowing, according to sources.
The Congress leader had been ailing ever since he returned to Patiala after his Nabha visit on May 3.
