Rs 20 lakh stolen from IG Canal Colonisation Department's office

Jaisalmer, May 7 (UNI) Unidentified thieves have stolen a cash box containing around Rs 20 to 23 lakh from the office of IG Canal Colonisation Department in Mohangarh town here.

The thieves, two or more in number, entered the office last night after breaking open the door and took away a cash box containing cash around Rs 20 lakh to Rs 23 lakh, the superintendent of Police K B Vandana said.

She said the cash amount of around Rs 70 lakh, collected on account of land allotment payments during last one week, was kept in different cash boxes in the office.

A massive search had been launched for thieves. The service of dog squads was also being availed, she added.

The SP also said the officials were not expected to keep such huge cash in office for a week without a watchman or attendant.

As per the rules, the cash should have been deposited in the bank, she added.
