Non celebration of Pokhran blast an insult to scientists: Advani
Bangalore, May 6 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha L K Advani today condemned UPA government for non-observation of a tenth annivarsary of Pokhran nuclear blast on May 11 and described it as an insult to the scientists and the Armed Forces of India.
Addressing an election meeting here he said that the NDA government had conducted the nuclear blast within two months of its coming to power ten years ago on that day as to keep up its promise made to the voters that it would make India a nulcear super power.
"The present UPA government led by Congress at the Centre has a different approach towards the achievements made by the scientists who achieved it and the armed forces who conducted it at Pokhran," he said.
The whole world was taken aback and the US was shocked and angry at the conducting of the blast of which CIA had no knowledge, he said.
BJP had made its promise to the voters in its manifesto to make India a nuclear weapon state and fulfilled it in consultation with its allies in just two months after it came to power on March 19 in 1998, he said.
Former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee was the first person to congratulate Ms Indira Gandhi on her conducting of the nuclear blast much against the policies of her party, he said adding that present UPA governemnt had a different thought on India becoming a nuclear power.
