MCD to inquire alleged locking of elderly couple by sealing squad

New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) A day after an elderly couple were allegedly locked up inside their house in West Delhi by sealing squads of the MCD, Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra said the Corporation would inquire into the incident and anyone found guilty would be punished.

Madhusudan Wadhwa and his wife were yesterday afternoon allegedly locked inside their house in Tilak Nagar in West Delhi when MCD officials, carrying out sealing of the premises not provided relief under the 2021 Master Plan, sealed their house from outside.

The couple didn't realise they were trapped until their son visited them in the evening and saw the Municipal seal outside.

Talking to UNI, Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra said an inquiry had been ordered into the incident and anyone found guilty would be meted out a severe punishment.

''A committee has been constituted to inquire into the matter which will submit its report by tomorrow,'' Ms Mehra said.

Ever since the sealing drive began to seal premises not covered under the 2021 Master Plan for Delhi, in compliance of the Orders of the Supreme Court, the MCD has sealed over a thousand structures all over the capital.

As part of its drive, the MCD today sealed 162 units in areas like Trilok Puri, Lajpat Nagar, C R Park, Rajouri Garden, Kirti Nagar, Vishnu Garden, Tilak Nagar, Vasant Kunj, Malviya Nagar and Ashok Vihar.

Of the 162 units sealed, 43 were sealed in South zone, 28 in central zone and 26 in Rohini.

With today's sealing the MCD has sealed a total of 1,496 units since the sealing action began.
