Local CPI(M) leader shot dead by Maoist ultras

Purulia, May 6: A gang of armed Maoist ultras shot dead a CPI(M) local committee member at Hittinglohar village under Balarampur police station in Purulia district.

Superintendent of Police Ashok Prasad said here today CPI (M) local committee member Dubraj Hembrem (50) was shot dead by Maoist ultras last night.

Police suspect that it was the handiwork of Maoists from the Jharkhand border, possibly from East Singbhum. The three-tier Panchayat polls would be held in the district on May 11.

Earlier, CPI(M) zonal committee member Ganapati Bhadra was shot dead and another party local committee member Rampada Mandi injured by two armed Maoist ultras on May 4 at Bhomragarh village in Bandwan area of the district.
