Four remain in fray for the May 22 by-polls

Hamirpur, May 6 (UNI) Four candidates have remained in the fray for the May 22 Hamirpur parliamentary by-polls after the returning officer rejected the nomination papers of BJP and Congress's covering candidates today.

The nomination papers of BJP's Praveen Sharma and Congress' Ranjit Singh Verma were rejected by the returning officer for these elections after scrutiny, official sources said.

The BJP has fielded Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal's son and HP Cricket Association (HPCA) president Anurag Thakur, while Congress has given ticket to former legislator O P Rattan.

BSP's Rattan Chand Kaundal and an independent Amin Chand are also contesting elections, which are being held after Mr Dhumal resigned from the Parliament after he was named the state Chief Minister after the assembly polls in December, last year.

The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is May eight.
