Five doctors and hospital issued notice in medical megligence case

New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) A Delhi Court today issued notice to Sunder Lal Jain hospital and five doctors in a ten- year-old medical negligence case leading to the death of a patient.

The notice was issued by Additional Sessions Judge Pratibha Rani on a revision petition filed by the son of the deceased against the order of discharge of the accused doctors and the hospital.

On March 18, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alok Aggarwal had discharged all the accused including the hospital of the charges of causing death due to medical negligence.

On February 5, 1997, Dr Subhash Goyal, an ENT surgeon working with the same hospital was admitted for chest pain. He died the next day.

The family of the deceased lodged a complaint before the lieutenant Governor of Delhi but no case was registered against the doctors and the hospital. Then they approached Delhi High Court which by its order dated September 4, 1998 directed the registration of FIR against the doctors and the hospital.

The FIR was lodged on September 26, 1998 and on October 7, 1999 the case was transfered to the crime branch of Delhi Police and chargesheet was filed against the accused and the hospital on December 7 1999.
