EPIC issued to almost 80% of voters in district: Official
Mangalore, May 6(UNI) Dakshina Kannada District Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao today said 79.62 per cent of the over 13.33 lakh voters in the district have been issued Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC).
Speaking to reporters here, he said the administration would continue to disburse EPIC cards till May ten, the day of elections.
The revised total number of voters in the district was 13,33,094 with 6,58,287 men and 6,74,807 women voters.
A toal of 49 candidates were contesting from eight Assembly segments.
According to ECI guidelines t-shirts and Caps bearing party symbol and the candidate's photo have been totally banned and severe action would be taken against those violating the norm.
Randomisation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would be held at both control and ballot units to avoid any doubts.
Ten Central Election Observers, including two Expenditure Observers, have been appointed by the Election Commission for the district.
To a query, he said so for 47 cases of violation of model code of conduct have been reported.
