CBI Anti Corruption sleauths unearth evasion of Custom duty
Bangalore, May 6 (UNI) Sleuths belonging to CBI Anti Corruption bureau have unearthed evasion of customs duty to the tune of Rs 76,394 by passengers coming to the city from abroad in connivance with the customs officials.
According to an official release here today, following allegations of corruption by the Officers of Customs Department posted at the International Airport, Bangalore, the Anti Corruption sleuths carried out surprise check after arrival of Thai Airways flight No TG-325 from Bangkok.
It was found that two passengers carrying articles such as LCD Colour TV, 10 bottles of Johnny Walker Black Label Whisky, Pioneer car stereo with accessories, jeans pants, children's garments and other items evading customs duty of Rs 76,394 with connivance of the customs officials posted at the Airport.
During the check the officers of CBI also found articles such as liquor bottles, chocolate boxes, printed circuit boards, CD drives, vanity bags, passports of Indian and foreign nationals in the possession of the customs officers, the release added.
A detailed probe was being carried out regarding the modus operandi role of individual officers and the extent of loss caused to the public exchequer.
