AASU dharna to demand non-merger of AOD with IOC
Guwahati, May 06 (UNI) The All Assam Students Union today took out a protest rally in Guwahati city to demand non-merger of the Assam Oil Division (AOD) with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
Hundreds of AASU activists, led by AASU advisor Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharrya, president Sankar Prasad Ray and general secretary Tapan Gogoi, marched to the IOC's regional head office here.
Official sources informed that for administrative reasons, the AOD, a wholly owned division of the IOC, was sought to be merged with the IOC.
However, the move was being opposed by the ruling party, Opposition as well as the students organisation.
The AASU demanded that separate identity of the AOD should be retained.
