Jammu sizzles at 43 degrees C

Jammu, May 4: Normal life in this tropical capital city of Jammu and Kashmir was severely affected as the mercury today mounted to the season's highest 42.9 degrees Celsius.

Bringing no respite to people, a torrid sun continued spreading the unbearable heat. 'Temperature in Jammu city was recorded at 42.9 degrees Celsius,'' met sources told UNI.

The maximum temperature was four notches above normal, registering a jump from yesterday's 42.4 degrees Celsius, they said.

People sweated it out as the maximum temperature continued to remain above the 40 degrees Celsius mark for the last couple of days.

It being a weekend break in offices on Sunday, a majority of people preferred to stay indoors and only a few vehicles plied on city roads.

However, no loss life due to a sunstroke has been reported here till now.
