1 lakh policemen for poll duty: DGP
Mysore, May 4 (UNI) The newly appointed Director General of Police R Srikumar today announced that nearly one lakh police personnel would be deployed to supervise the entire three phase Assembly elections commencing on May 10 in the state.
Speaking to mediapersons here, he said nearly 225 companies of police personnel would be drawn from neighbouring states for the elections.
Nearly 200 companies would be deployed during the first phase elections in the state and another 25 companies in other parts of the state where the election campaigning was taking place.
He said the CRPF and other reserved police personnal would be positioned at very sensitive booths on polling day of May ten.
The Chief Election Commissioner was very keen that elections in Karnataka should serve as a model for the rest of the country, he added.
Many measures have been taken to ensure there would be no muscle or money power during the elections. The service of 20,000 Home and Forest Guards would be used during the elections.
Mr Srikumar reviewed the security measures at Mandya, Chamarajanagara and Mysore districts besides holding discussions with officials.
