Congress criticises Govt for washing hands off in price hike

Pathanamthitta, May 3 (UNI) All India Congress Committee (AICC) Coordinator and Party Chief Whip in Rajya Sabha Prof P J Kurien today accused the LDF Government in Kerala of washing its hands off the plight of the common man in the wake of spiralling price of essential commodities.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the state government was criticising the Centre for the dismal situation.

Alleging that the Government was not taking any action against hoarders and black-marketeers, he said it felt no shame in asking rice from the Centre when acres of fertile paddy fields lay fallow.

The duty of the Government was to inspire farmers in engaging themselves in paddy cultivation, he added.

Pointed out that even harvesting of paddy had been hampered by the policy of CPI(M), Prof Kurien said the UPA Government was doing everything possible to check the price rise of essential food items.
