Slow tsunami rehab work in Andaman echo in Parliament
Port Blair, May 2 (UNI) The CPI(M), which raised questions over Andaman's slow tsunami rehabilitation work in Parliament, today said it will continue to do so unless the government takes up the task seriously.
Hannam Mollah, the CPI(M) MP from West Bengal, who visited these islands on April 27, has raised a number of questions over the slow tsunami rehabilitation work in Andaman during zero hour, K C Das, the General Secretary of CPI(M) in Andaman told reporters here.
Mr Das said even 30 per cent of the rehabilitation and construction work has not been completed in Andaman till now.
Other issues of public importance like damaged ATR road, delay in taking up drinking water projects and also non-availability of ships to transport materials for the construction work were raised in Parliament by Mr Mollah, Mr Das added.
''Our party has also sought the Prime Minister's intervention in this regard.'' Recently, senior leaders of CPI(M), including Hannam Mollah and Prakash Karat, had visited these remote islands and promised local people to raise important issues of Andaman in Parliament.
