Strike call on May 2 by Delhi BJP against price rise

New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) With price rise having reached beyond tolerance levels, the Delhi BJP has called for a general strike on May 2 to draw the government's attention to the problem which has made life for Delhi denizens miserable.

It would not be a 'bandh' as this could cause inconvenience to the people in general, Delhi BJP president Harshvardhan told mediapersons, drawing their attention to the inflationary trends which had not just made life for the common man unbearable but also for the middle class.

Right from oil to dal to vegetables, the prices had gone beyond the reach of ordinary citizens who were finding it difficult to make their ends meet, he told the press.

''The massive price rise is the result of the government being hand-in-glove with traders and hoarders to fill its own pocket, without caring an iota for the common man's concern.'' Launching the 'rein in inflation or quit' call against the government just before its May 2 'hartal' call, Dr Harshvardhan said the facade of checking price rise through doctored measures was a farce as the inflation was due to the Congress' own misdeeds.

''After giving a free hand to traders and blackmarketeers for four years, the government was befooling the people with its 'price control measures'. Their intentions and deeds both are suspect as the Prime Minister himself was asking parties not to talk of price rise as that would be politics.'' Elaborating on Friday's strike call, the BJP chief said all MLAs, Corporators, district chiefs and workers across Delhi would participate in the 'hartal', but all essential services would be kept out of the loop, he added.
