Rajya Sabha approves extension of President's Rule in Karnataka

New Delhi, Apr 29 : The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday approved the extension of President's Rule in Karnataka for six months from May 20.

Moving a Statutory Resolution in this regard, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said: "Extension of the President's Rule had become necessary as the Assembly poll process could not be completed before May 19, the day Central rule expires." "Since the poll process would not be complete before May 19, it had became imperative to extend President's Rule beyond that date," he added.

The resolution was adopted without discussion in the House.

The Election Commission is expected to visit Karnataka today to review poll preparedness.
