Mayawati govt shedding crocodile tears on Bundelkhand : Congress
Lucknow, Apr 29 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee today accused the Mayawati government of shedding crocodile tears for the people of Bundelkhand and doing nothing concrete for the central package of Rs 7016 crore demanded by the state in December last.
''Mayawati has only one common agenda of lashing out at Rahul Gandhi on the dalit issue and doing nothing for the masses,'' claimed claimed state Congress chief spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh here.
He said despite repeated requests, the UP government had not sent the detail report to the Centre for the relief package to the drought affected people in Bundelkhand.
During a meeting of the inter-ministerial central team at New Delhi on February 4, it was said that both Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh had sought central package under the National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF).
While the MP government had sent a detail report on the projects to be implemented through the funds demanded in the package, the UP government had not done even so after several requests, the meeting observed while sending the report to the PMO.
Mr Singh said yesterday in Parliament Union Agricutlure Minister Sharad Pawar had also mentioned about non receipt of detail report from the UP government on the demand of Bundelkhand drought package.
Congress leaders Digvijay Singh and state party president Rita Bahuguna Joshi had also asked the UP government to send the report to the Centre at the earliest so that the package could be announced, but the BSP government was doing nothing, he further said.
Demanding Rs 7016 crore from the centre for taking up relief work in the drought hit Bundelkhand region on December 26,2007, the UP government had just mentioned long term and short term financial requirement on a department basis.
