PSU unions defer all-India strike after meeting PM
New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) The trade unions of public sector undertakings today deferred their May 7 all-India strike after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reportedly assured to look into their demand of a five-year salary settlement.
A delegation of the committee of public sector trade unions (CPSTU) met the Prime Minister along with CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury and informed him that despite a lapse of 16 months, a new wage settlement had not been reached between Ministry of Heavy Industries and the trade unions. While the ministry was insisting on a 10-year wage settlement, the trade unions wanted the period to be five years.
On the appeal of the PM, the trade unions decided to defer their strike.
