MRPS damages signalling equipment in railway station

Vijayawada, Apr 28 (UNI) As part of state-wide protests demanding categorisation of Scheduled Castes, the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) activists allegedly damaged the signalling equipment in Cheruvu Madavaram station near Kondapalli early today.

The loss was estimated to be about Rs two lakh, a railway official told UNI.

Six people, covering their faces with a cloth, came to the railway station and asked the Assistant Station Manager (ASM) and his attendant to leave the place.

Later, they poured petrol and set fire to the records in the station, besides damaging the signalling equipment.

Following this, the Kakinada bound Gowthami Express from Secunderabad was detained for some time, the official said.

The activists also shouted slogans and dropped a few pamphlets at the spot demanding SC classification.
