Police yet to initiate registration of migrant labourers
Nahan, Apr 27 (UNI) Despite the directives of Himachal Pradesh government to register the migrant labourers arriving in state in search of work, no concrete steps in this regard has been taken hy labour department and police here.
According to sources a considerable number of labourers were engaged in work here in industrial areas of Kala-Amb and Paonta Sahib of Sirmour district.
Over 30,000 migrant labourers hailing from mainly Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand were working here and despite the directives no record had been maintained regarding them, sources added.
Additional S.P Rani Bindu Sachdeva at Nahan today said that there was a need for labour department to arrange the registration of migrant labour.
''Police could not approach every industry to register every migrant worker and police was only responsible for issuing of identity cards,'' she said.
