Karkala, (Udupi district) Apr 27 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister and Senior BJP leader Narendra Modi today stressed that political stability and accountability would be the only mantra for the overall development of any state.

Addressing a mammoth election rally in favour of party's candidate of Karkala constituency Sunil Kumar here, he asserted that because of the political stability achieved in Gujarat during his earlier two- terms in office, the state could achieve fast development in all spheres making one among the top ranking state in the entire country.

He stressed that if BJP was voted to power in the coming election, Karnataka could also be turned into a developed state on the lines of Gujarat with political stability established in the state under the able leadership of Mr B S Yaddiyurappa.

Arguing his point, Mr. Modi said that before BJP could take the reins of Gujarat, the cotton production in the state was mere 23 lakh bales whereas it had now increased to 1.23 crore bales production.

There were no cases of farmer's suicide in the state where the farmers have kept faith on the party unlike in any other state, he said.

"The people of Gujarat have now learnt that BJP could only protect the interests of the farmers which had taken the farmer's development as its main motto," he said.

Strongly criticising the Congress government at the Centre and the leaders, the Gujarat Chief Minister said that the Congress party was playing the minority card using them as its vote bank doing nothing for their sake.

When the Apex Court pronounced capital punishment to Afzal Guru, the Congress leaders were not in favour of the verdict. They were not favour of any capital punishment. It was only the BJP which demanded the Union government to carry out the verdict of the Supreme Court, he said.

Lamenting on the political predictions of political pundits, analysts and pre-poll survey by some agencies and media, Mr Modi called upon the people not to give any credence to any such predictions as all these predictions were 'purchased'.

The people/agencies making such poll predictions were totally purchased by the political parties, he said.
