Scientists conferred upon National Mineral Award
New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) Union Minister for Mines Sisram Ola gave away the National Mineral Award for 2006 to 22 emiment geoscientists and mining technologists at a function here today.
One senior geoscientist was conferred upon the award of excellence for lifetime contribution to the field of Geoscience. The award carries Rs 3 lakh in cash, a trophy and a citation.
The other awards were given under 19 different categories and each of those carried Rs one lakh, a citation and a trophy.
Speaking at the function, Mr Ola praised the geoscientists for their immense contribution to building the nation and called upon all engaged with the mineral sector to work together so that the scientific benefits acheived by the scientists in the laboratory could be applied in the field for the benefit of the common man.
He said the industry should find out ways to economise their cost of production to be competitive in the global market.
The awards were introduced by the Ministry of Mines in 1966 to encourage the geoscientists in the country.
Minister of State for Mines B K Handique was also present as guest of honour.
