Expedite work on 6th Pay Commission: FM

New Delhi, Apr 25: Finance Minister P Chidambaram today asked the Cabinet Secretary-headed Committee, constituted to examine the recommendations of the Sixth Central Pay Commission, to submit its report as early as possible. ''The Committee has met once, on April 15.... I will advise it to meet as frequently as possible,'' Mr Chidambaram said during Question Hour.

He said the Committee will examine all suggestions and submit its report to the Government which will then take a decision. He dismissed a suggestion that a separate Pay Commission should be set up for the defence forces. He said the Government will implement the pay scales from January 1, 2006, as recommended by the Commission.
