286 cases of meningococcemia in Delhi this year

New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) The National Capital Region has reported 286 cases of meningococcemia or brain fever since January 1 to April 21, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Panabaka Lakshmi said during the corresponding period in 2006 and 2007 as many as 731 and 279 cases respectively were reported.

Besides, Meghalaya has also reported 269 brain fever cases from March 26 to April 21.

She said measures were being taken to control the situation.
