Speaker stays sex education in schools
Mumbai, Apr 23 (UNI) A day after Maharashtra Education Minister Vasant Purke announced in the Legislative Council that sex education from class IX and X will be introduced from the next academic year, Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar today stayed the same and directed the government to form a committee.
Leader of the Opposition Ramdas Kadam, Bashir Patel (NCP) and others protested over the inclusion of this subject.
Mr Kadam criticised the Education Minister Vasant Purke and expressed his concern over the announcement of the same only in the Legislative Council and not in the Assembly.
The Speaker finally said a committee would be formed in which experts from the education field, legislators and social workers would be included who would decide whether to introduce sex education in schools or not.
Education Minister had announced yesterday about the introduction of sex education in schools of the state from ninth standard.
