Medical board denies rape of woman in Nandigram

Kolkata, Apr 23 (UNI) A medical board today confirmed that a woman, who claimed to have been brutalised in Nandigram, was not raped.

''The medical board has found some external injuries on her. But the swab test does not confirm rape. She might have been physically harassed,'' hospital Superintendent Ashok Kumar Ghosh said.

The Superintendent said Radhrani Ari, who was admitted to the hospital on Saturday last, had been discharged.

The Trinamool Congress, however, alleged that the medical report in the Government hospital had been doctored at the instance of the CPI(M).

Radhrani a middle-aged housewife and the Trinamool Congress alleged that she had been raped by CPI(M) men who attacked her house in the Gokulnagar area of Nandigram.

Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee made it one of the issues for the 12-hour statewide bandh on April 21 that she called in protest against the spiralling prices of food itmes.

Ms Banerjee also visited Radhrani's house today and addressed a public rally in the area, going for panchayat election with rest of the state next month.
