CPI, CPI(M) stage stir against price rise
Chennai, Apr 23 (UNI) Cadres of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and CPI today staged demonstrations at various places in the city, against the spiralling prices of essential commodities.
The joint stir was held at 20 places in the city and CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadarajan led the agitation at Purasaiwakkam.
They demanded that the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre should take immediate measures to curb the rise in prices of essentials.
The agitators also demanded that the Union and state governments make available atleast 15 essential items through the Public Distribution System (PDS) and ban 25 commodities in future trading.
