Ordinance to be issued on Hill District Council, Manipur
Imphal, Apr 22 (UNI) The Manipur government has decided to promulgate ordinances on the autonomous hills districts council for holding of elections of the local bodies in five hill districts and making some amendments in Panchayati Raj institutions.
Official sources said here today that the state Cabinet, chaired by Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, in a meeting held yesterday, decided to approve promulgation of Manipur Hill Areas Autonomous District Council (Third Amendment) Ordinance, 2008, by virtue of which election for local self government in the five hill districts of the state will be held.
The Autonomous District Council (ADC) members may be increased from 20 to 26, including two members to be nominated by the state government from the weaker sections of the communities residing in the hills, and conduct of elections to the ADC by state Election Commission instead of the Commissioner, Hills.
The districts where the elections will be held are Tamenglong, Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel and Churachandpur districts, officials said.
The Cabinet also approved an ordinance on No Confidence Motion in respect of Zilla Parishad under Manipur Panchayati Raj Act, 1994.
