Hannan Mollah seeks Warren Andersen's extradition
New Delhi, Apr 21 (UNI) CPI(M) member Hannan Mollah today sought extradition of former Union Carbide chairman Warren Andersen from the United States to face judicial action in connection with leakage of a deadly gas from the company's plant in Bhopal in December 1984.
Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha during zero hour, the Marxist MP said now that the 25th anniversary of the tragedy was just a year away, it was high time the government wrapped up everything associated with it before it again came under international focus next year. The government must set up a special commission to rehabilitate all those affected by the tragedy which had claimed more than 15,000 lives so far.
He also urged the government to look into the problem of contamination of water in the vicinity of the closed plant of the company.
