17 girls rescued from brothel in Mumbai
Mumbai, Apr 22 (UNI) As many as 17 girls, including a minor hailing from Uttar Pradesh, were today rescued by the police from the city's red light area of Kamathi Pura.
A police team, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid on a brothel, situated at Mustafa chawl on 12th lane of Kamathipura late This evening and freed the girls, Nagpada police station sources said.
The brothel owner, Shila Prem Thappa, and manager Aruna Thakur Singh were arrested in this connection, sources said, adding, an offence was registered against them under sections 373, 372, 376 of the Indian Penal Code and also under various sections of the Prevention of Immoral Traffic Act (PITA).
The rescued girls were sent to shelter home, while the minor girl, hailing from Davariya Ganj of UP, was sent to the Juvenile home, sources added.
