New Delhi, Apr 21 (UNI) The scorching heat today persisted in Delhi with the mercury shooting up to 39.6 degrees Celsius, thus continuing its upwards movement.
Registering an increase from yesterday's 38.8 degrees to 39.6 degrees today, the maximum temperature was three degrees above normal.
The minimum also rose to 23.3 degrees, one unit above normal.
The coming days could witness hotter days with the weathermen forecasting a severe heat wave in Delhi and other plains of Northwest India in the next two to three days.
''The current meteorological analysis suggests that gradual rise in maximum temperatures is likely over plains of Northwest India, leading to development of heat wave conditions in these areas,'' the weather office said.
The Met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours.
After a cool weather in the first two weeks of April, the Capital city has been witnessing a rise in mercury since last week.
