Govt takes steps to reduce power consumption:Minister
Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 21(UNI) Kerala Electricity Minister A K Balan today said effective measures taken by the government has helped in reducing the total consumption of electricity in the state.
In his keynote address at a workshop on ''Efficient Energy Management and Renewable Engery'', organised jointly by USAID, SARI and State Energy Management Centre, he said the main problem faced by the state was due to the high consumption of power during the peak hours.
Mr Balan said, however, as a result of proper awareness, the government has succeeded in bringing down the consumption of power during peak hours and a good amount of power savings this year, when compared to the previous year.
In place of 2,742 MW consumed last year, it came down to 2,700 MW during the current year, he added.
