'Cannot accommodate all BEd graduates': Pondy Govt
Puducherry, Apr 21: The Puducherry administration today expressed helplessness in providing employment to all candidates who have completed B.Ed and D.Ted here.
Replying to a question in the Territorial Assembly, Education Minister M O H F Shajahan said about 2,010 applications for teacher posts were pending with the department, while there were just 46 vacancies. As many as 42 B.Ed colleges and over 100 D.Ted institutions were functioning in Puducherry, from which over 1,000 students pass out each year. Though there might not be much problem for the D.Ted, it was difficult for the Government alone to accommodate B.Ed graduates, he added.
To another question, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said the administration had no intention to convert the Villianur commune panchayat into a municipality as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme opportunities could be availed only in villages.
