Court refuses bail to cheating case accused

Patna, Apr 21 (UNI) A local CBI court today rejected the anticipatory bail petition of an accused in a cheating case of over Rs one crore.

Designated judge Radheshyam Prasad, after hearing both sides, refused to grant anticipatory bail to accused Ishwar Kumar Gupta.

According to the charges, Gupta in fictitious names, published advertisements in newspapers offering lucrative prizes and invited money from public through Value Payable Letters (VPL) and Value Payable Money Orders(VPMO) and cheated Rs one crore thirty one lakh from the public by encashing VPL and VPMO under the conspiracy of employees of the Postal department.

A case was registered in 2003 on a complaint of the Postmaster General, Northern region, Muzaffarpur.

CBI had already submitted chargesheet in the case against several people including government officials of the Postal department.
