Constitutional Post Not Above Constitution : Speaker
New Delhi, Apr 21 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee sees his office as ''very much covered'' by the Right to Information, a spokesman said tonight.
The occupant of one of India's highest Constitutional offices was answering journalists a day after newspapers carried Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan's response on RTI.
Asked if the CJI's office came within the purview of the RTI Act, Justice Balakrishnan had remarked it was a Constitutional post and not a government office.
The Speaker pointed out that the Constitution has provided the Right to Information and no one is above the Constitution, the institutions created by which are for the people.
''We should not hold back any information from the people unless it is related to security or such matters,'' Chatterjee was quoted as having said.
