7 arrested in Kanchrapara murder case

Barrackpore, Apr 21: At least seven miscreants were today arrested by Dhanekhali police from Nadia in connection with the dacoity and murder case at Kanchrapara jewellery house under Beejpur police station in North 24 Parganas.

Forty two-year-old Chandana Daswife of the shop-owner was killed allegedly by armed gansters, who pushed her off the balcony of her third floor residence after looting the shop on Kanchrapara Workshop Road on February 21.

Police has seized a huge amount jewellery and cash from their possession, police sources said today.

Earlier, police arrested six people in this connection, who were then remanded to judicial custody.

Growing criminal activities in Kanchrapara area of Beejpur police station in North 24 Parganas caused not only anger among inhabitants of the area but also the business community, which expressed resentment against police inaction to curb the menace and observed a business bundh, demanding arrest of the miscreants.

The ruling political party leadership in the district has also expressed similar views and even sought the chief minister's intervention in the case.
