Seven women of Tata steel receive awards from PM
Jamshedpur, Apr 19 (UNI) Tejaswini, a women empowerment initiative by Tata Steel comprising seven women have been awarded the 'Shram Veerangana' and 'Shram Devi' Award by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The women were awarded cash prizes worth Rs 80,000 each. Tata Steel CEO H M Nerurkar was the chief guest on the occasion.
Under this project unskilled and semi-literate female employees are trained, technically, behaviorally and made suitable for taking up technical jobs.
Under the guidance of the team of Project Tejaswini 50 ordinary women have become operators and drivers of heavy-duty machinery and vehicles.
It gives the women a sense of independence, pride and accomplishments to work respectfully and have a stable source of income.
